The Draft Siouxland Regional Transportation Planning Association (SRTPA)/ Siouxland Regional Transit System (SRTS) Public Participation Plan (PPP) in now open to public comment and review. Please view the document online at: http://www.simpco.org/Transportation/PublicParticipationProcess.aspx
The PPP describes the public participation activities SIMPCO transportation staff will undertake during the development of the Long Range Transportation Plan, the Transportation Improvement Program, the Transportation Planning Work Program, the Passenger Transportation Development Plan and the Public Participation Plan. The PPP also outlines the public participation process for SRTS fare increases and/or major reduction of transit services.
The PPP is developed by SIMPCO transportation planning staff with input from the Technical Advisory Committee, the Policy Board of the SRTPA and the SRTS Board of Directors. The Iowa Department of Transportation (IA DOT), the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) also provide input in the development of the PPP. Per the requirements of the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act (FAST Act) the SRTPA/SRTS is also notifying environmental resource and cultural agencies, transportation providers and all interested parties who have valuable input to our region.
The PPP is required by federal law and its purpose is to adhere to the principals of environmental justice as defined by Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Executive Order 12988, and all other U.S. DOT statues and regulations. It is also the purpose of the PPP to follow the legislation passed in Iowa that allows public involvement in the process by following Open Meeting Laws and the Public Records Law.
The SRTPA/SRTS is in the process of updating the Public Participation Plan, with approval scheduled for January 26, 2017. The Draft PPP for the SRTPA can be found on the SIMPCO web page at http://www.simpco.org/Transportation/PublicParticipationProcess.aspx and the SIMPCO offices at 1122 Pierce Street, Sioux City, Iowa 51105. In addition a Public Input Meeting will be held on January 17, 2017 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the SIMPCO offices. This will give the public an opportunity to view the Draft PPP and provide the SIMPCO staff with valuable comments.

An amendment to the Siouxland Interstate Metropolitan Planning Council (SIMPCO) Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) Transportation Planning Work Program (TPWP) is now open to public comment and review. Please view the amendment online at:
The TPWP is a document prepared annually by SIMPCO transportation planning staff for the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO). The TPWP describes the transportation planning activities staff will undertake during the next fiscal year. Each major activity is described in detail to include the task objective, previous work, project description, future products, and budget information on each activity.
The TPWP is developed by SIMPCO transportation planning staff with input from the Transportation Technical Committee and the Policy Board of the MPO. The Iowa Department of Transportation (IA DOT), the South Dakota Department of Transportation (SD DOT) and the Nebraska Department of Roads (NDOR) also provide input in the development of the TPWP.
The TPWP is required by federal law and its purpose is to serve as a guiding document of information addressing current and projected transportation needs for the MPO from a planning perspective.
The MPO is in the process of amending the FY 2017 TPWP, with approval scheduled for January 5, 2017. The amendment includes additional Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) planning funds in South Dakota to conduct a long range transportation study for Dakota Dunes and North Sioux City, South Dakota.
