On June 20, 2024, SIMPCO staff participated in the dedication of Chris Larsen Park in Sioux City. The dedication celebrated completion of the Riverfront Redevelopment Project. SIMPCO staff served on the Riverfront Steering Committee. Since 2010, the SIMPCO Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) has contributed $2.4 million in Transportation Alternative Program (TAP) funds to enhance and connect the trail system along Sioux City’s riverfront. The project is also significant to SIMPCO because it was the last project worked on by SIMPCO’s founder, Skip Meisner before his passing in November 2020. Skip was considered by many as Siouxland’s expert on the Missouri River.
