Missouri River Historical Development (MRHD) announced today $71,650 in emergency grants to non-profit organizations assisting local flood victims impacted by the disaster.
The recent unprecedented floods have caused widespread damage to homes, businesses, and infrastructure. In response to this disaster, MRHD has swiftly mobilized emergency grant resources to provide support and assistance to those in urgent need in their recovery efforts.
Six Siouxland organizations received funding to help support residents in McCook Lake, Riverside, and rural Woodbury County who have been impacted by recent flooding.
The emergency grants awarded by MRHD are designed to address immediate necessities such as food, temporary housing, essential supplies, clean up and emergency repairs. All of the organizations have been actively engaged in responding to those in need. Funding will provide access to construction materials, dehumidifiers, and other needs as directed by the non-profits. MRHD will consider another round of additional Emergency Grants to be awarded in two weeks.
In addition to the emergency grants, MRHD has modified its existing Impact Match Grant program to identify flood-related projects in its upcoming grant cycle. MRHD has modified some grant requirements for flood projects, including waiver of the required match and limit on outstanding projects. Payment for flood projects will be made as needed rather than through reimbursement. Applicants with flood projects may contact MRHD’s Executive Director or review updates on MRHD’s website for more information. The application period for the Impact Match Grant will run throughout the month of August. In total, $1,000,000 will be available for awards ranging from $25,000 to $250,000. Awards will be announced on October 24th.

MRHD will continue to identify ongoing needs and ways we can assist individuals and organizations in need.”
MRHD is the non-profit Qualified Sponsoring Organization (QSO) that holds the license for casino gaming in Woodbury County and receives funding from an agreement with Hard Rock Hotel & Casino – Sioux City. Under Iowa law, a percentage of the casino’s gaming revenues is allocated to MRHD for community development. Since 1989, MRHD has invested more than $53 Million into Woodbury County and the Siouxland community through grants funded by casino gaming revenue. MRHD has a variety of grant programs awarded annually and additionally has authorized emergency grant funding when needed to respond to natural disasters and public health concerns.
