Plymouth County Wind Energy Facilities Tour

SIMPCO continues to research topics of interest for our member communities.

Facilitated by ISU Extension, SIMPCO staff attended a Wind Energy facilities site visit in Marcus (9/23/26). The tour included an inside look at a turbine and a transformer site. The discussion provided an overview of wind turbine impacts on the power grid, stand-alone generators designated for specific on-site facilities, and references for ordinance development.

Professionals from Invenergy and MidAmerican provided data and decision-making factors for establishing wind energy farms. Among others, representatives from Cherokee County, Plymouth County, and the City of Marcus were in attendance.
