SIMPCO Staff Attend 2025 Economic Development Conference
SIMPCO staff recently traveled to Denver, Colorado to participate in the 2025 Economic Development Conference. The event featured a variety of concurrent sessions, mobile workshops, and ample networking opportunities with peers. Key topics included housing, economic development, business attraction and retention, RLF program management, CEDS, public-private partnerships, energy communities and economic diversification, demystifying match requirements, OMB guidelines, AI in economic development, local and regional food systems, and much more.
SIMPCO & SRTS Directors Present to Iowa DOT
On April 8, SIMPCO Executive Director Michelle Bostinelos and SRTS Transit Director Brian Pearson presented to the Iowa DOT Commission in Sioux Center, Iowa. Michelle, alongside representatives from the Siouxland Chamber of Commerce, Woodbury County, and the City of Sioux City, discussed the Gordon Drive Viaduct, current and future trail projects, the Southbridge Interchange, and the Sioux Gateway Airport. Brian shared SRTS's plans to expand the current facility and build a satellite bus facility in Le Mars.
SIMPCO's Nathan Kistner Helps Spark STEM Excitement at the Siouxland STEM Festival
Nathan Kistner, a regional planner from SIMPCO, volunteered at the Siouxland STEM Festival held in Sioux City on Wednesday. The event drew roughly 450 students from around northwest Iowa, providing them with insights into careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Students from 6th to 12th grade visited the 185th Air Refueling Wing, Oracle Aviation, and the Mid America Museum of Aviation and Transportation, where they engaged with 40 hands-on exhibits and educational sessions.

The Iowa Creative Places Exchange, hosted in partnership withtheis an annual gathering of Iowans working to enhance community and economic development outcomes by leveraging the arts, culture and creativity.
Attendees will share and learn about building stronger communities through partnerships with the arts and successful creative placemaking. The exchange recognizes Iowa's creative sector as vital to economic development and community well-being.
Hosted by the Greater Burlington Partnership, Capitol Theater, and Art Center of Burlington, with support from The University of Iowa Initiative for Sustainable Communities, the 2025 Exchange will showcase Burlington's placemaking efforts. It will connect communities through tours, presentations, and peer learning sessions to address challenges faced by creative communities across Iowa.

Iowa Statewide TAP Supplementary Application Cycle for the Statewide Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside Program (TAP) - Eligible project activities continue to include a variety of smaller-scale transportation projects such as pedestrian and bicycle facilities, recreational trails, and community improvements such as historic preservation, vegetation management, and some environmental mitigation related to storm water and habitat connectivity. Living Roadways Trust Fund (IA) - Working through many partners in Iowa, the Living Roadway Trust Fund (LRTF) supports integrated roadside vegetation management (IRVM) programs; and educates the public on the benefits, use and care of roadside vegetation, including native plants. Iowa Workforce Housing Tax Incentive β Housing Projects that meet one of four criteria: Housing development located on a grayfield or brownfield site; repair or rehab of dilapidated housing stocks; Upper story housing development; New construction in a greenfield. Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) β This program funds regional, local, and Tribal initiatives through grants to prevent roadway deaths and serious injuries. The SS4A program provides funding for two types of grants: Planning and Demonstration Grants and Implementation Grants. Planning and Demonstration Grants provide Federal funds to develop, complete, or supplement an Action Plan. Implementation Grants provide Federal funds to implement projects and strategies identified in an Action Plan to address roadway safety problem. For more information, click here.
