Administrative Assistant I


The Siouxland Interstate Metropolitan Planning Council is a regional planning agency located in Sioux City, Iowa.  The agency is guided by a board of directors comprised of city and county-elected officials, representatives of the private sector and stakeholder organizations. Agency collaborates with local governments in long-range strategic and comprehensive planning, community and economic development activities, transportation planning issues, and regional program management including the Siouxland Regional Transit System. Administrative Assistant I is responsible for providing assistance and oversight of daily administrative operations and daily receptions. General purpose is to provide administrative support & assistance provided in a manner consistent with the mission and philosophy of Siouxland Interstate Metropolitan Planning Council & Siouxland Regional Transit System.


  • Answer, transfer, & follow up phone calls/voicemails.
  • Manage & maintain front reception, breakroom, supplies closets, & training room areas.
  • Organize office & assist in ways that optimize procedures.
  • Fax, scan, or copy records as needed.
  • Update & maintain meeting, vehicle, & conference rooms calendars.
  • Manage & sort incoming/outgoing mail.
  • Organize & send reminders for meetings or events.
  • Prepare & organize conference rooms for meetings or events.
  • Take minutes for boards/committees.
  • Receive & update vehicle mileage for Finance Department.
  • Assist Finance Department in basic accounting functions (deposits, check scanning, & prepare audit materials).


  • Associate’s Degree in Office Administration or a minimum of 2 years of assistant experience, preferably in a State and Local Government environment (Bachelors a plus).
  • Must be proficient in computer skills and have an in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of standard office administrative practices and procedures.
  • Must have strong, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Must possess the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must maintain strict confidentiality.

SUPERVISION: Supervised by the Executive Director

WAGE LEVEL: $15.50-$18.00 per hour (commensurate with experience)
