Assistant Transit Director

The Siouxland Interstate Metropolitan Planning Council (SIMPCO) is looking for an Assistant Transit Director to help manage the Siouxland Regional Transit System, serving five counties in Iowa and Southern Union County in South Dakota.  Under the direction of the Transit Director, the Assistant Transit Director will be required to help develop department goals, practices and procedures, exercise independent judgment and communicate well with staff, clients and the general public. In addition, the position will primarily assist with managing transit operations, budget preparation, preparing reports, preparing grant applications and overseeing vehicle maintenance.

The Assistant Transit Director position requires effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present data, planning concepts and technical language in various reports and studies. Applicants must be able to provide services to the public in a courteous and effective manner. Field work may be required for oversight of transit operations in rural counties served.

Knowledge of Mircosoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe is recommended. Applicant must possess strong writing, research, and computer skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other persons inside and outside of the organization.

Bachelor’s degree in business, management, or other appropriate field with supervisory experience desired.  In lieu of higher education, five years of responsible work experience with experience in transportation related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  Valid Driver’s license is required.  Must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol test.

Salary: $55,000 – $80,000

The Siouxland Interstate Metropolitan Planning Council (SIMPCO) is a regional planning agency located in Sioux City, Iowa.  The agency is guided by a board of directors comprised of city and county-elected officials, representatives of the private sector and stakeholder organizations.  SIMPCO collaborates with local governments in long-range strategic and comprehensive planning, community and economic development activities, transportation planning issues, and regional program management including the Siouxland Regional Transit System.
