Part -Time Internship

The Siouxland Interstate Metropolitan Planning Council (SIMPCO) is looking for a part-time Intern to assist with the Keep Northeast Nebraska Beautiful (KNNB) Program.  Under direction of the Regional Planning Director, the Intern will work directly with the KNNB Project Coordinator on the following tasks:


  • Track and coordinate distribution of clean up supplies, tools and donated good to communities to ensure availability during scheduled events
  • Attend scheduled KNNB board meetings and provide updates on activity as applicable
  • In-person communications, phone calls, email for contact development
  • Assist communities with planned clean-up events
  • Complete project and event reports
  • Staff  vendor booth at community events including but not limited to fairs and community day celebrations
  • Educate via after-school/childcare programs  with waste reduction demonstration/activity
  • Research and compile information on recycling options for varying communities
  • Conduct Litter Assessment/Community Appearance Index
  • Additional work as related to litter reduction, waste reduction and education thereof as may be assigned

Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office based programs is required. Applicant must possess strong writing, research, and computer skills. Good written and oral communication skills highly recommended.  Intern must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other persons inside and outside the organization. A valid driver’s license is required.


The internship will provide a student with work experience in a wide variety of fields, including by not limited to planning, environmental studies, business, education, and marketing.
